Time management has been discussed by many times and much more
qualified people than me, so I am not going to tell any background story or motivational
speech to consider time management. I am simply going to share what worked for me
and may also help you guys.
First thing first one need to have clarity about what his goal
is and how he is going to get it. Clarity not just in goal but also in
resources, tools and process required to reach the goal.
Once one has sorted the above things then time management is
the tool that will bring everything together. Actually time management is not
just time management; it is management of combination of time, attention and
intention. One has to understand this combination of time, attention and
intention is limited resource. We can achieve which fits our budget of this
precious combination. It’s true that we can achieve whatever we can dream of in
bigger picture but right at this moment we have to start from where we are standing.
We have to understand how out mind works, our mind looks for
some sort of feedback for our action that it can label as achievement or
significant progress. This phenomenon demotivates us as everything is difficult
in the beginning and everything takes more time than we think. Therefore instead
of looking for results or progress it is wise to keep check on if we are
paying our installment of time, attention and intention.
Having some mechanism to track our discipline of paying our installment
has helped me allot. This mechanism kept me motivated, keeps me on track and
gives sense of achievement every time make entry of my effort in it.
How I did it......
GOAL :
I wanted to become fit. My goal was to be able to Run
5 km, be able to do 20 push-ups and hold plack position for 1 minute.
RESOURCES :
Running shoes, yoga mat, HIIT tutorial, 3 slots of
45 minutes in week
PROCESS :
I planned to do 1 HIIT session, one running and one
body weight exercise every week.
MECHANISM TO TRACK :
I simply have on blank paper having written
"Health" at the top, Monthly dates and a table having 3 columns
saying HIIT, Running, Free body weight. Everytime I do my exercise I cross the date in the calender and add 1 to whatever exercise I have done.
